Talk to your CRM

Many of our customers have the problem that they need to install the CRM onsite without exposing it directly to internet but they still have the necessity to query the system while they are on the road.
In this scenario also the mobile application can’t help. To avoid this kind of problems we have developed the MailQuery. It’s an application that reside on the CRM server and wait for emails from standard mail client or smartphones. When the MailQuery receives a mail it replies whit the content of the search also via mail to the authorized sender address.
In this way the customer doesn’t have to open the firewall or dmz the system, and he can also query it by mail when on the road. The system can in the same way add activities to the CRM if he receives a reply mail for feedback purposes.

In a couple of related posts, Chris Daly and Alex Handy (SD Times) highlight some issues with proprietary SaaS players in the market - namely vendor lock in and the high prices associated with it.

In his article, Alex observes that current hosted platforms, based on proprietary platforms, lock in clients and end up costing more over time.

“The concern: Prices and costs will only move in one direction—up. Why? The client is a renter and has almost no control over the computing environment. Developers have been trained for years to avoid vendor lock-in, and using a subscription-based remotely hosted platform for development is about as proprietary a form of lock-in as there can be.

Chris Daly follows up on this and notes that a SaaS service based on open source software can address such concerns.

A variation on a straight SAAS model is where the software is open source and there are no license costs. The client can then pay for support or consultancy as and when appropriate, or upgrade without cost. This enables a company to take the opportunity of the skillset in house and develop their application while harnessing external expertise.

We agree with both of them, and feel that with the True Open source CRM in the cloud, vtiger CRM On Demand service delivers on the intended promise of SaaS service- Flexibility, Convenience, and Lower Costs.

We discussed the idea of having regression testing bed setup for vtiger in the last brainstorm session.

The primary aim was to reduce the time and effort involved in validating the product between each release and eliminate the manual errors that creep in.

In this regard, we seek your expertise & suggestion on any such tool (or combination of them) that can help us achive it.

If you are interested in driving the effort for a prototype setup the testing bed setup, we would be happy.

Feel free to share your feedback.

We just celebrated the installation # 1500 we did for our partner Illuminetic. It has been a long road to get this far and we want to share this success with the community and to thank vtiger for this wonderful CRM system.
Our client base includes the little mum & pap stores as well as large international operating companies from all over Europe and the US. Our customers love the easy to use GUI, the flexibility and the reliability of the CRM system. Since version 5.1 the webservices had become an important part for the communications with ERP, shopping, accounting and other systems and the new API was used to modify the system cost effectivly to meet special customer needs.
Nevertheless, to serve a large customer base as an Application Service Provider with an reliable service we had to make a lot of modifications and improvements to the orignal system. You may see the results at our demo.
The vtiger team has supported us during the years not only with special program code but also with valuable consulting and personal advice. As a return to the community we will continue to contribute bug fixes, extensions, manuals, and improvements as we did since version 4.2.
